Cinco de Mayo: A History
The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 where victory by Mexican forces over French forces symbolized Mexican resistance to foreign domination. Today, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated as a day of Mexican pride for those living in the U.S.
