Chocolate Icarus is Here! Come and Get it!
The Story
For those who snoozed during Greek mythology class, Icarus was the son of Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth in Crete. According to the myth, Daedalus (who brought along his son Icarus) was hired to design and build this Labyrinth that would hide King Minos’s son, the Minotaur (half man, half bull who ate people). Still with us? Minos didn’t want his secret of the Minotaur and Labyrinth to get out so he imprisoned both Daedalus and Icarus in a tower.
Daedalus fashioned two sets of wings out of feathers and wax (peep this song of the same name). Before taking off, and perhaps you can guess it, Daedalus told Icarus don’t fly to close to the sun because the heat will melt the wax, and don’t fly too close to the sea because the water will wet the feathers. But Icarus didn’t listen, and from his excitement, he flew too close to the sun causing the wax to melt and plunge into the sea. The island nearest where he fell is now called Icaria (now known for having some of the oldest people in the world because, well, island life).
